A Pause to Ponder God's Word
"The God Who Sees Me"

It was not her fault. She was only doing what she was told to. It was not her idea to sleep with Abraham, but her master, Sarah, insisted. Sarah believed that she could not have the son that God had promised her husband, so she ordered her maidservant, Hagar, to have a son for her. But, though it was perfectly legal according to their law, it wasn't God's way. And after Hagar had slept with Abraham and become pregnant by him, Sarah's jealously raged and she began to treat Hagar terribly. Hagar could not bear it anymore, so she ran away. She found herself out in the desert near a spring alone, confused, and wondering where God was, when an angel came to her. The conversation with the angel ended with instructions from God, and Hagar "gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: 'You are the Lord Who sees me'." (Genesis 16:13) He peace and comfort was found in the glorious fact that God saw her, knew exactly where she was, knew what she was facing and provided what she needed.

In your walk with the Lord, have you ever found yourself in a place where you could not seem to find God? You have been faithfully following, but the life storm has made it hard to see God. The clouds are thick and the darkness overwhelming. God seems so distant. In these times we need to know that our God is the "Lord that sees you." He knows where we are. The darkness does not hide us from Him. The thick clouds are no match for His penetrating gaze. He sees us and knows us. He is fully aware of what we are going through. He will never leave us or forsake us. He is providing what we need, though we are unaware of His working. This is our confidence. This is our hope. This is our strength. Our Savior and Lord is "the God Who sees us."

Let my father tell you about God's providing this very message through him to his dad:

"While Pastoring in Fort Wayne, Indiana, we were saddened to learn that upon his retirement from The Bethlehem Steel Co., my Dad had to be hospitalized for severe depression, and given a series of shock treatments. My wife, Jane, and I made the trip home to see Mom and Dad. After the visit we felt confident that they were in good hands, so we returned to Indiana to carry out our responsibilities there.
"To our consternation a phone can came to inform us that Dad had jumped out the second story window of the hospital. He was graciously spared physical harm, but was obviously terribly confused.
"Mom requested that her son George come home to see him right away and just maybe I could help him. Jane and I went immediately to see Mom and then on to the hospital to see Dad.

"Both Mom and Dad were wonderful Christians with vibrant testimonies and faithful Church members.

"At the hospital, I asked to be alone with my Dad. He suddenly realized that I was there, and in spite of restraints, he reached up his hand and clasped mine saying; 'Son, I can't find God. PLEASE - PLEASE HELP ME FIND HIM!' My mind raced for the right words, as I prayed that God would speak through me to be the source of mental strength that Dad needed to rebound and recover. The words that immediately came to mind were, 'Dad, please don't worry about finding God. HE KNOWS EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE AND HAS NOT FORSAKEN YOU!'

"With that, we hugged and Dad fell asleep -- the first real sleep he had in many days -- and recovery was on its way.

"Dad did recover and stayed around for several years before he went home to be with the Lord - having been a good husband, father and servant of the Lord. Praise the Lord for His Faithfulness!"
Beloved, our God is the God Who sees us. Let us always trust Him, even those times when we cannot seem to find Him. He is providing and in time we will see Him again, closer to Him than before and enjoying sweet fellowship.

Keep Close To Jesus
